Top Three Tips for Proofreading Your Work
If you are a student, it's the time of year that you'll probably be thinking about starting your dissertation. You've done the research and groundwork, so now it's time to put pen to paper, or finger to keyboard.
If you're like many of the students I work with, you'll probably put all your effort into writing your thesis, then have very little time to actually check it thoroughly for spelling and punctuation errors.
Here are three top tips to help you do this:
Do not rely on Spellcheck because it does not always pick up that words may have a different meaning in different contexts For example, a spellcheck would not pick up any errors in the following sentene: "you're car is over their", however, there are two mistakes. Can you spot them?
Read your work carefully and slowly. Often we scan read and miss glaring errors, so try and read every single word.
Take a break from your work before checking through it.
Taking the time to take these simple steps, they can make the difference between getting a good grade and a great grade.
